Wilson:
Enclosed are the analytical results for August 7 and 25 , 1987 , soil
samples taken at the subject site . Sampling locations are shown on
Figure 1 . The analytical results are summarized in Table 1 .
On August 7 , 1987 , Graphic Contractors excavated additional soil at
the site of the waste oil spill. Approximately 3 cubic yards of
soil were removed and stockpiled on site . The excavated soil was
separated into two stockpiles. One stockpile was used for visibly
clean soil. The other stockpile was used for waste oil-stained
soil .
On August 7 , 1987 , Brown and Caldwell personnel collected three
soil samples (TEA-2, TEA-3, and TEA-4) from the bottom of the
excavation at a depth of approximately 2 to 3 feet. These samples
were submitted to Brown and Caldwell ' s (BC) state-certified
laboratory in Emeryville, California.
After sample collection, the excavation was backfilled with the
April 17 and 21 and May 1, 1987 , stockpiled soil . The stockpiled
soil was determined to be free of hydrocarbon product, based on the
June 23 , 1987 , soil sampling results .
On August 25 , 1987 , BC personnel collected soil samples TSP-4 and
TSP-5 , one from each of the two stockpiles. These samples were
submitted to state-certified Eureka Laboratories, Inc. , in
Sacramento, California.
The soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum fuel hydrocarbons
(U.S . Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 8015 , modified) ,
solvents (EPA 8010) , benzene , toluene , and xylene (BTX) (EPA 8020) ,
and pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) (EPA 8080) .
Soil samples TEA-2 and TEA-4 had detectable EPA 8015 , modified
constituents in the motor oil range , and the EPA 8010 , constituent
Freon 113 . No desiganted levels have been established for EPA 8015 ,
modified total petroleum fuel hydrocarbon constituents . The Freon
723 S STREET SACRAMENTO.CA 95814 • (916)444-0123
