(AGE) on your behalf for the above-referenced site. In this work
plan, AGE proposes to collect soil vapor samples in Tedlar bags from eleven soil borings
at total depths of approximately five feet below surface grade (bsg). Two of these soil
borings will be advanced near the north and west sides of the former underground storage
tank location, and nine borings will be advanced adjacent to the north, east, and south
sides of the existing home located at 104 West Beverly Place, Tracy, California. AGE
also proposes to collect soil samples at total depth from four soil borings advanced to
approximately three feet bsg. Two of these borings will be located midway and adjacent
to the north and south sides of the existing home and two of these borings will be located
adjacent to the east side of the existing home.
EHD approves the advancement of eleven soil borings at the proposed locations for the
purpose of collecting soil vapor samples. In addition to analyzing soil vapor samples for
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX), EHD directs that you analyze
soil vapor samples for naphthalene and methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) by
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SW-846 soil method 8260B, or by ambient air
method EPA TO-15. Reporting limits for all chemicals of concern must be equal to or
below residential Environmental Screening Levels (ESLs) and California Human Health
Screening Levels (CHHSLs) for soil gas published by San Francisco Bay Regional Water
Quality Control Board.
EHD does not approve the advancement of four soil borings to three feet bsg. Instead,
EHD approves a modification presented during a telephone conversation between AGE
and EHD on May 17, 2007, that includes advancing four four-foot continuously cored
borings, beginning at approximately two feet bsg and terminating at approximately six
feet bsg at locations presented in the above-referenced work plan. EHD believes soil
samples collected at total depth from these borings will provide needed information from
the capillary fringe area since groundwater tends to be approximately six feet bsg at this
site. Selected soil samples collected from these four borings will be analyzed for total
