08 January 1997
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0106
tape and immediately placed under ice in a chilled container for transportation to a State-certified
laboratory. Each soil sample sleeve will be labeled with the following: boring location, vertical
depth, time, date and sampler's initials.
2.2. PROBING AND SAMPLING
The PHS-EHD is also requiring the performance of a soil gas survey, to determine the extent of
petroleum hydrocarbon soil vapors in the City of Tracy Right of Way. Also AGE proposes to
initially advance at least six soil gas probe borings in the City of Tracy Right of Way, within West
Beverly Place. Proposed probe boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2. Each probe boring will
be advanced to depths of 5 feet below surface grade (bsg),using a Geoprobe 5400 probing unit. Soil
gas samples will be collected from each probe boring.
3.2. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean water after
washing with a solution of Alconox. All hollow stem augers are steam-cleaned prior to advancement
in each borehole. All Geoprobe rods are cleaned prior to advancement in each probe boring location.
3.3. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline(TPH-
g)and volatile aromatic compounds (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylene: BTE&X) and
methyl-tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA methods 8015/5030, 8020/602 and
8020/602, respectively. Each soil gas samples will be analyzed for TPH-g, BTE&X and MTBE in
accordance with EPA methods 8015m/5030, 8020 and 8020,respectively. Selected soil samples may
be released to a State-certified laboratory to be analyzed for intrinsic permeability, moisture content
and porosity in accordance with the appropriate ASTM methods. OJO 1F 4167MIfIc* J 4
a1" W fW* Qt1lOM
Laboratory reports of both all analysis, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control Uil
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report with the
findings and recommendations.
