Weldon Church Site Background Information
' Page 3 of 4
' collected at discrete depth intervals from the majority of the probe borings. Figure 2 depicts the
locations of the probe borings.
' TPH-g was detected in three of the soil samples analyzed at concentrations as high as 2,800 mg/kg
(P3-6). BTEX compounds were detected in the same three samples at concentrations as high as
93 mg/kg(total xylene,PI-6).The maximum benzene concentration detected was 2.8 mg/kg(PI-6).
' TPH-g was detected in grab water samples at concentrations as high as 210,000 mg/l. BTEX
compounds were also detected in four of five grab ground water samples at concentrations as high
' as 35,000 mg/1(toluene P6). The maximum benzene concentration detected was 12,000 mg/1(P6).
The installation of the soil probe borings was summarized in the PIER prepared by AGE, dated
10 September 1996.
' Between July 1996 and April 1998, a total of six wells were installed on the site and surrounding
properties in order to determine the lateral and vertical limits of the dissolved hydrocarbon plume.
' In July 1996, four soil borings were drilled and completed as 2-inch diameter ground water
monitoring wells with slotted screens from approximately 5 to 25 feet bsg.
' In April 1997,soil borings B5(MW-5)and B6(MW-6)were drilled and completed as groundwater
monitoring wells. Monitoring well MW-5 was completed using a 2-inch diameter PVC casing with
I a slotted screen from approximately 3 to 10 feet bsg.Ground water monitoring well MW-6 was dual-
completed with screen intervals installed from a depth of 20 to 23 feet bsg and 3 to 13 feet bsg. The
installation of the first four monitoring wells was summarized in the PIER prepared by AGE,dated
' 10 September 1996.
On 07 May 1998, soil borings B 13, B 14, and B 15 were advanced manually and one boring was
' completed as a ground water monitoring well.Borings B 13,B 14(MW-7),and B 15 were established
on the property at 52 West Beverly Place. The installation of the borings was performed using a
six-inch diameter hand auger.
IOn 09 and 10 June and 26 August 2003,nine soil probe borings(B 16 through B24)were advanced
on- and off-site.
' Seventeen soil samples were analyzed; TPH-g and various BTEX compounds were detected in
samples B17-5, B18-10, and B20-8 at maximum concentrations of 15 (mg/kg) TPH-g (B20-8),
0.52 mg/kg benzene(B18-10),0.18 mg/kg toluene(B 17-5),0.24 mg/kg ethylbenzene(B 17-5),and
2.15 mg/kg xylenes(B17-5);xylenes were also detected in sample B 16-5.5 at 0.006 mg/kg.The fuel
additive MTBE was detected in the four soil samples analyzed from borings B17 and B18, at a
maximum concentration of 0.29 mg/kg (B 17-5), and was detected in soil samples collected from
total depth in both borings,at a concentration of 0.012 mg/kg.No other target analytes were detected
' Advanced GeoEnvlronmental,Inc.
