The Letter summarizes a 25 May 2015 release of approximately 50 gallons of
crude oil from oil transfer pumps at the Site.
On 25 May 2015, Shell Pipeline Company LP (Shell) reported a release at the Site to SJEHD.
Approximately 50 gallons of crude oil spilled from oil transfer pumps due to the pumps'
malfunction and subsequent fire. Shell removed two 20-cubic-yard bins of contaminated soil
and gravel from the Site. Gravel, absorbent wipes, and other waste were also placed in bins for
disposal. SJEHD oversaw the cleanup of the spill; however, Shell did not collect confirmation
samples at the Site. SJEHD field notes indicated no residual contamination remained based on
the visual observations. On 5 July 2017, SJEHD referred the Site to Central Valley Water
Board.
Central Valley Water Board staff reviewed the Letter and will not be activating this case for the
following reasons:
• The crude oil spill was within the containment area.
• As stated by SJEHD all visually contaminated soil and gravel have been removed.
The Letter and all correspondence will be uploaded to GeoTracker for informational purposes.
If you have any questions regarding this letter, you may contact me at (916) 464-4819 or by
email at.kristin.sheltonCcD-waterboards.ca.gov.
l
KRISTI SHELTON, P.E.
Water Resources Control Engineer
Investigation, Cleanup, and Enforcement Unit
cc: David Harder, Shell Pipeline Company, 25705 S.
