ST-EPHENS ANCHORAGE .PROPERTY,. 4950 WEST BROOKSIDE 6AD, STOCKTON — SUMMARY
REPORT..y:_ ,F
We have reviewed_ the 21 'September 1989 Summary Report -prepared -by Water Work
for this site. Petroleum hydrocarbons were detected . i'n ground water during
the removal of three underground storage tanks onsite .: Three ground water
monitoring wells -were installed and sampled in an attempt to define- the extent
of hydrocarbon contamination in soil and ground water. '
Total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel were. detected in water samples from two
of the monitoring wells at levels up to 110 parts,' per.,billion. 'According to
the report, the levels of contamination are welljbelow the designated level to
protect ground water. Please note that: the Desiginated. Level Methodology
applies to levels of contaminants in soils, and is intended to prevent
contamination of ground water through improper disposal of contaminated soil .
The Designated Level Methodology should not. be applied to situations where
ground water has already been impacted. ,
The gradient of ground water flow at this site is` reported to be in. a south to
southwesterly direction. Based on our review of 'the information included in
the report, the existingground water monitoringwells:. may not be adequate to
monitor water quality downgradient from the former tank location. The
gradient at the site should be reevaluated and the mon'it_oring wells resampled.,
to confirm the results. of the initial investigation. "'Also, we note: that the`
_samples for. the..previ.ous round.oft ground-water, samp-1 ing ,we.re. shipped -via.. . .
Greyhound, this constitutes a break in the chain 'of custody. If concurrence
of site certification is to be sought .from the Regional Board, all sample .
analytical - data must be accompanied by appropriate chain of custody
documentation.
If you have any questions; please call..,me.. at (916) 361t5731. -
THOMAS D: PELTIER
Engineering Geologist
TDP/tdp
