y
What is HousehoLd Hazardous
When leftover paint, used oil, pool chemicals and other products containing hazardous materials are no longer wanted, they become"Household Hazardous Waste," or"HHW." It is illegal
to dispose of HHW in the garbage, down drains, or onto the ground, as it may threaten human health or the environment. Illegally disposed hazardous waste can release chemicals into the
environment and contaminate our air, water, and even the food we eat. Americans generate over 1.6 million tons of HHW per year; that's about 100 pounds of HHW for every household.
The San Joaquin County HHW Facility is located next to the Stockton Airport and has LIMITED HOURS OF OPERATION -see reverse for operating hours, map and additional information.
Common examples of HHW include but are not limited to the following household products:
OMS iyc,u: - •-- _ ARAG
Household Cleaners Pesticides&Garden Products r j Automotive Products Universal and Electronic Wastes are banned
•Abrasive Cleansers •Chemical Fertilizers •Anti-freeze from disposal in the trash;fortunately, mos
•Ammonia-based Cleaners •Flea Collars,Sprays&Bombs •Auto&Motorcycle Batteries can be recycled:
• Bleach-based Cleaners • Fungicides •Auto Paint&Primer • Batteries:
• Car Waxes&Polishes Alkaline
Chlorine Bleach • Herbicide&Weed Killers •
• Disinfectants I , • Insecticide&Bug Killers • Engine Cleaner&Degreaser F_ Button Style
•Drain Openers • Rodent Poisons
•Gasoline&Diesel Fuel Lead Acid
•Glass Cleaners • Roach&Ant Killers or Baits Kerosene NiCad
•Oven Cleaners •Snail&Slug Poisons •Motor Oil Other Rechargeables
•Scouring Powder
•Solvents&Acids • Fluorescent Lights&Bulbs r
•Spot Removers _ Pool&Hobby Products •Transmission Fluid •Mercury Devices:
•Toilet Bowl Cleaners •Artist&Model Paints •Other Automotive Fluids Mercury Thermometers
• Upholstery&Rug Cleaners • Firearm Cleaning Solvent Mercury Thermostats
• Photographic Chemicals Paint Products Other Devices Containing Mercury
Other Household Products • Pool Chemicals,including Disinfectants • Enamel&Oil-based Paint • Consumer Electronic Devices'(e-waste):
•Aerosol Spray Cans &PH Balancing Chemicals • Furniture Stripper Answering Machines
• Floor Polish • olvent-Based&Epoxy Glues • Latex&Water-based Paint Cellular Phones
• Furniture Polish ' •Paint Stripper ' Computers
•Mercury Devices Vsit our ReUse Room for FREE productsl •Rust Paint Computer Monitors"
•Medications" The Household Hazardous Waste Facility Reuse •Stain Printers
•Mothballs Room has products available that are new or •Thinner,Solvent&Turpentine Radios&Stereos
• Nail Polish&Remover gently used.
