Subsurface Investigation Report
216 N.California St.
March 24,2008
Page 4
excavation was backfilled. Lead was detected in soil at low concentrations representative of background
lead concentrations for Stockton. Benzene was not detected at or above the laboratory reporting limits in
any of the samples. Toluene, ethyl benzene, and total xylenes were detected in all of the samples at
relatively low concentrations. Diesel-range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-D) were detected in
groundwater at a concentration that exceeds regulatory water quality limits. Based on soil sample
analyses, TPH-D appears to increase with depth to approximately 30 feet bgs, and decrease with depth to
48 feet bgs.
Based on the laboratory analytical results, it is reasonable to expect that the vertical extent of soil
contamination is between 50 and 75 feet bgs. There does not appear to be a threat to human health and the
environment from benzene.
