rjAY 195 08:09HM CLEWWRTER GROLF .
CLEARWATER
G R O U P, 1 N C.
Mr. Ron Rowe May 22, 1995
Sa.xx Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Department
P. 0. Box 388
Stockton, C.A, 95201-0388
Re: Qlivarez Property, 300 South Stockton Street, Stockton
Dear Mr. Rowe,
I am currently in the process of finalizing the well installation/groundwater
sampling report for activities recently completed at the referenced site. As
backfilling the currently open excavation is a topic possibly worth consideration in
this submittal, I thought it worthwhile to discuss the elements of a such a
recommendation with you prior to sending out the final report for your review.
As you are aware, the excavation floor is currently about 10 - 15 feet below ground
surface. Depth to groundwater was measuredd at about 45 feet in the recently
installed investigative wells. It is unlikely that hydrocarbon-impacted soil, if it
exists beneath the tank pit, will be able to be removed through further excavation,
given the constraints posed by the building and nearby streets. It is therefore
probably unnecessary to leave the excavation open for future remedial possibilities.
The elements of a backfilling recommendation should include the removal of
existing vegetation and debris, as well as any other physical preparatory measures
required for appropriate compaction. Are there other considerations that you would
like to see included in this recommendation? If so, please give me a call to discuss.
With your input, I believe a complete recommendation to backfill (if you concur
that backfilling is appropriate) is most succinctly presented with the results of the
preliminary investigation.
Thanks in advance for your help. I look forward to speaking with you again soon.
Very truly yours,
learwater Group, Inc.
Mark B. Niebanck, K G.
Operations Manager
cc.
