N
Soil Vapor Extraction Remediation Report - Third Quarter 2011
STALLWORTH AUTO SALES
602 North California Street, Stockton , California
1 .0 . INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE OF WORK
At the request of Mr. Gary Stallworth of Stallworth Auto Sales, Advanced
GeoEnvironmental , Inc. (AGE) has prepared this quarterly remediation reportfor 602 North
California Street, Stockton , California (site) . This report documents operation and third
quarter 2011 progress of a soil vapor extraction (SVE) recovery system at the site .
Objectives of the site activities were to monitor the progress and effectiveness of SVE
j remediation at the site . The site setting is illustrated on Figure 1 . Site structures and
monitoring well locations are depicted on Figure 2 . Site background information is
summarized in Appendix A.
This report has been prepared in accordance with guidelines issued by the California
Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB ) - Central Valley Region for investigation
of underground storage tank (UST) sites.
2 .0 . SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION REMEDIATION SYSTEM
Between 06 June 2011 and 22 August 2011 (third quarter 2011 ), an SVE remediation
system was operated at the site, utilizing a natural gas-fired , catalytic oxidizer SVE system
to apply an induced vacuum to wells VWA and VW-2 . On 22 August 2011 the on-site
SVE system was temporarily shut down for the performance of an SVE rebound test.
SVE procedures for the site were described in the AGE-prepared Interim Soil Remediation
Work Plan (dated 25 July 2008) and approved by the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department (SJCEHD) by letter dated 25 July 2008 .
2 . 1 , SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION REMEDIATION SYSTEM PROCEDURES
The SVE remediation system consists of a Solleco TCAT 250 catalytic oxidizer soil vapor
extraction system . The SVE system utilized a manifold network of two-inch and three-inch
diameter, Schedule 40 PVC piping installed belowground from SVE wells VW- 1 , VW-2 ,
VW-3 and VW-4 to an SVE moisture knockout vessel and 10-horsepower, maximum 250
standard cubic feet per minute (scfm) blower.
In order to monitor efficiency of the SVE system : 1 ) a Magnehelic vacuum gauge and
Dwyer DS-200 differential pressure sensor port were installed prior to the inlet (influent) of
the SVE unit to monitor the soil vapor flow rate; 2) SVE vapor flow of the influent and
effluent streams were monitored routinely for the presence of organic vapor using an
organic vapor meter (OVM) equipped with a photo-ionization detector (PID : Thermo
Advancer/ GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
