30 July 2008
AGE-NC Project No . 99-0682
Page 2 of 13
Off-site, at 521 East Oak Street, lithologic data was collected from CPT sounding boring CPT-8 ;
grab ground water samples were collected from two borings immediately adjacent to the CPT
sounding boring to assess the potential of dissolved petroleum migration from the site. In addition,
paired borings B-5 were advanced off-site for the collection of two grab ground water samples . CPT
reports from Gregg In Situ, Inc. are presented in Appendix B; boring locations are depicted on
Figure 2 .
2, 1 . 1 . Soil Boring Advancement
The CPT investigation utilized a 254on truck-mounted CPT drill rig equipped with 1 .50-inch
diameter hollow stem rods. A hydraulic ram was utilized to advance a cone penetrometer tip attached
to the hollow stem rod assembly to the total depth of the soil boring. Soil borings were advanced to
the following depths:
• Boring CPT-6 and two adjacent borings were advanced to total depths of 140 feet, 130 feet
and 75 feet below surface grade (bsg), respectively,
• Boring CPT-7 and two adjacent borings were advanced to total depths of 140 feet, 130 feet
and 75 feet bsg, respectively;
• Boring CPT-8 and two adjacent borings were advanced to total depths of 80 feet, 130 feet
and 70 feet bsg, respectively;
• Paired borings B-5 were advanced to depths of 130 feet and 70 feet bsg; and
• Paired borings B-6 were advanced to depths of 130 feet and 75 feet bsg.
At each CPT sounding boring location, the soil parameters of cone penetrometer tip resistance,
sleeve friction and pore water pressure were continuously measured as the cone penetrometer was
advanced to depth. Utilizing the soil parameters, the Hogentogler Co. computer program interpreted
general lithology types based on the CPT Soil Behavior Classification System (Robertson, P .K. ,
Campanella, R.G, Gillespie, D, and Greig, J., 1986) and displayed the interpreted lithologics on a
continuous CPT boring logs . Interpretive logs are presented in Appendix B.
All rinseate generated during drilling activities was containerized in properly labeled DOT-approved
55-gallon drums and stored on- and off-site in an area lacking public access. Soil borings were
backfilled over their entire depth with portland cement grout mix.
_ Advanced GeoEnvironmentnl, Inc.
