APPENDIX C <br /> ' MASS OF PETROLEUM HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL <br /> EMIL'S LIQUORS <br /> 1405 California Street, Escalon, California <br /> ' C.0, FORMULAS AND METHODS <br /> The area of lateral extent of impacted soil was determined from Figure 7; vertical thickness was <br /> determined from cross section A-A' (Figure 4). Soil concentration was based on the highest TPH-g <br /> value of 100 mg/kg, from sample HA-1-7.5. Calculated volume and mass were rounded for <br /> ' presentation on tables. Calculations were performed to a minimum of two decimal places. <br /> Calculations: <br />' Volume Determination: (Highest Concentration of 100 mg/kg) <br />' Assuming that the volume of TPH-impacted soil can be approximated by a spherical shape: <br /> Volume = 4/3 n R' <br />' Where R equals approximately 5 feet ('/2 diameter of approximately 10 feet) <br /> The volume of impacted soil is calculated to be 523 cubic feet (ft') <br />' Mass Determination: <br /> The mass of TPH in soil is derived by converting the volume of TPH-impacted soil to weight, then <br /> multiplying the weight by the ratio of TPH to soil. The density of soil is approximately 120 lb/ft'. <br /> Assuming the concentration of TPH in soil is 100mg/kg, or 0.000 1, then: <br /> Mass of TPH = Vo x 120 lb/ft' x 0.Oil = 6.28 lb <br /> sz-Sf"' <br /> TPH Volume: <br /> The volume of petroleum hydrocarbons is determined using a conversion factor of 6.25 lb per gallon <br /> for gasoline, or 7.0 lbs per gallon for diesel: <br /> E.g., Volume of TPH-g= TPH-g (lb) 6.25 lb = 1.0 gallon <br /> Additional Conversion Factors: <br /> 27 ft' = Iyd' <br /> 1 yd' soil = I.69 tons <br /> 1 kg = 2.2046 lbs <br /> • 1 gallon gasoline = 6.25 lbs <br /> 1 gallon #2 diesel = 7.00 lbs <br /> Advanced GeoEnvironmentai,Inc. <br />
