28 August 2000
lb AGE-NC Project No. 98--0481
3.1.2 . Ground Water Sample Collection
I A grab ground water sample was collected from SB-4 using a disposable bailer. The augers were
advanced to a depth approximately four feet below the water table. A disposable bailer was lowered
through the augers to collect a ground water sample. Sufficient sample was collected from boring
SB-4 to fill three 40-m1, EPA-approved VOA vials containing 0.5 mI 18% hydrochloric acid as a
sample preservative and one 1-liter bottle without a sample preservative. Ground water sample
containers were labeled with probe boring designation, date, time, and samplers initials.
IThe preserved samples were logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled container and
transported to a DHS-certified laboratory; the samples were analyzed for:
ITPH-g and TPH-d by EPA Method 8015 Modified;
' BTEX with MTBE by EPA Method 602; and
• TBA, DIPE, ETBE, TAME and MTBE by EPA Method 8260 Modified.
3.1.3. Equipment Decontamination
Prior to sample collection, soil and ground water sampling equipment was thoroughly rinsed with
clean water after washing with a solution of Alconox. Augers were thoroughly cleaned prior to soil
Iboring advancement.
3.1.4. Logging
Soil sample duplicates were monitored for the presence of organic vapor using an organic vapor
' meter equipped with a photo-ionization detector (PID: Thermo Environmental 580A, 10.0 eV,'
calibrated to isobutylene) and were visually described on boring logs in accordance with the Unified- ,
' Soil Classification System (USCS). Boring logs are included as Appendix A.
' 4.0. FINDINGS
Soil descriptions were utilized to construct the vertical and lateral soil model; laboratory analysis of
Isoil and ground water samples were utilized to assess the hydrocarbon-impact on the two media.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
I -
