—� <br /> Ms. Carol Oz Project 791700 <br /> August 12, 1999 <br /> Page 4 <br /> UST excavation . <br /> A total of ten soil samples were collected from the UST excavation. Six soil samples <br /> were collected from the base of the of the UST excavation and four soil samples from the <br /> sidewalls of the UST excavation (see Figure 2). Pinnacle personnel collected soil from the <br /> excavator bucket by removing 3 to 6 inches of soil and driving a brass sample tube into <br /> the remaining soil. The sample.tube was sealed with Teflon tape and plastic end caps, <br /> labeled, and placed in.an iced cooler for transport to a state-certified analytical laboratory <br /> with chain-of: custody documentation. <br /> Piping and dispenser samples <br /> Soil underlying and adjacent to the former product line trenches and dispensers consisted <br /> of dark brown and dark gray sandy silt to clayey silt (with lenses of black organics) to. <br /> depths of approximately 3 to 5 feet bgs. Slight petroleum hydrocarbon odors were present <br /> in samples PLrI, PL-6 and D-2. In addition, high PID levels were observed in samples D- <br /> 7 and D-8. <br /> Twelve compliance samples (PL-1 through PL-12) were collected from soil underlying the <br /> fiberglass product piping at approximately 20 linear foot spacing and at depths of 3.5 to 5 . <br /> feet below grade (see Figure 2). Seven compliance samples (D-1 through D7718) were <br /> collected from beneath dispensers at depths of five to seven feet bgs (see Figure 2). <br /> Sampling procedures'were consistent with those described above. <br /> Localized overexcavation to 7 feet bgs was at sample locations PL-1, PL-6, and D-7/8. <br /> Overexcavation was conducted based .upon strong hydrocarbon odor and high PID <br /> readings. <br /> Soil stockpile samples <br /> Approximately 1,000 cubic yards of soil excavated from the UST excavation and piping <br /> trenches were stockpiled on-site. Pinnacle sampled the stockpile (SP-1) at a frequency of <br /> four samples per 100 cubic yards and submitted samples SP-1-A, -13, -C, -D through SP-1- <br /> R, -S, -T for profile analysis.
