14 June 2004
AGE-NC Project No. 04-1180
equipped with a 2.15-inch diameter soil sampler attached to 1.125-inch diameter probe rods.
Boring P1 was advanced within the assumed former location of the former USTs and/or dispenser
island area; boring P2 was advanced in the assumed down-graident direction of the former UST
and/or dispenser island area, approximately 60.feet northeast of P1.
LW 3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Samples were collected from the borings at discreet 5-foot intervals using a 1.125" Geoprobe soil
sampling assembly loaded with four 6-inch brass sleeves. All sampling equipment was washed in
an Alconox solution and rinsed twice with water prior to each.sampling run.
. For each soil sample collected, both ends of the second or other selected sleeve were covered with
Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. The samples were labeled, stored on ice and transported
under chain-of-custody to,Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories (CTEL;) a State of California
Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified- analytical laboratory. Selected samples were
analyzed for:
Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
Method 8015M; and
+ Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX) and the volatile organic
compounds methyl-tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE),tertiary butyl alcohol(TBA), di-isopropyl
ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME),
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) and 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB) in accordance with EPA
Method 8260B.
3.3. SOIL LOGGING
After sample preservation, soil was extruded from the remaining sleeves and field-screened utilizing
an organic vapor analyzer (OVA) equipped with a photo;ionization detector (PID: Thermo
Environmental 580B, 10.0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene). The soil was also described visually in
accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
