The Q3-2002 Report
presents a summary of quarterly monitoring and remedial activities completed in July through September 2002.
MtBE contamination in on-site monitoring and extraction wells was identified at a maximum of 43 micrograms
per liter µg/1, and MtBE was identified in off-site monitoring wells at a maximum of 79 µg/l (MW-I IB). The
depth to groundwater dropped approximately 6 feet from the last quarter sampling, and three shallow wells were
not sampled due to insufficient recharge to the well following well purging.
Hexavalent chromium was identified in a 2 September 2002 treatment system effluent water sample at 0.30 µg/1.
AGE notified this office and collected a confirmation sample on 25 September 2002. The treatment system was
shut off on 25 September 2002 until sample results could be reviewed and discussed. The confirmation sample
was non-detect at less than 0.5 µg/1, and the treatment system was restarted on 25 October 2002.
AGE recommends continued groundwater extraction and treatment and quarterly monitoring, and to analyze the
monthly system effluent water sample for hexavalent chromium. Board staff concur with AGE's recommendations.
Board staff are preparing a draft monitoring and reporting program, and you will be receiving our draft letter for
your review and comment this month.
