Capitol/Paddock Place
Lodi, CA., 95242
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS-EHD) has reviewed
the recently submitted Quarterly Monitoring Report and report of the recent deep"Geoprobe"
investigation and offers the following comments.
Concentrations of MTBE found in the groundwater exceed allowable limits and must be investigated
further. Monitoring wells should be placed in all areas where this and other fuel additives have been
detected. The wells should be constructed so that a deep screened interval is placed at the geological
segment where the contamination was detected. A separate monitoring well or additional casing
should be placed at the current depth to groundwater also with a screened interval not to exceed
twenty feet long. PHS-EHD recommends that no more than five feet of screened interval be placed at
the deeper zones and the wells may be"nested"if your consultant feels this would be more
economical than multiple wells place in a close"clustered"manner.
A work plan that addresses the construction, number, and location of these wells should be
submitted by January 20, 1998.
In order to place offsite monitoring wells, either a signed access agreement from the private property
owner or an encroachment permit from a public agency is needed. Please include a copy of the
required approval with a PHS-EHD boring permit application and the$89 fee per permit per parcel.
Please continue to monitor and sample the existing monitoring wells quartedy for TPH-G and D,
BTEX, and the oxygenates until redirected by PHS-EHD.
You may contact Michael Infuma at(209)468-3454 if you have any questions or wish to discuss the
site.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Envir nme/ntal Health Division
4; A
LGcrC _ y
Michael J.
