Capitol/Paddock Pl.
Lodi, CA.. 95242
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS-EHD), has reviewed the
"Work Plan Addendum -July 1997", submitted by your consultant Advanced GeoEnviron mental, Inc., and
has the following comments.
The proposal to place a minimum of five (5) soil probes to 15 feet below ground surface(' bgs) appears to
include the historically known down-gradient areas of the groundwater plume's migration. In addition,
PHS-EHD will require the following modification to the proposal.
Due to the specific characteristics of MTBE, your groundwater vertical limit investigation should be
expanded to include groundwater sampling at various depths in, and to the bottom, of the saturated zone.
Other MTBE contaminated groundwater sites have shown that the MTBE plume tends to move outward in
"fingers" away from the source four times the typical distance of the other gasoline constituents and
slightly downward as it proceeds. With this in mind, PHS-EHD will require your investigation to include
discreet groundwater grab samples taken from depths greater than 15' bgs and continuing downward until
the lithology interpretation indicates that you have reached the lower limit of the saturated zone.
With the modification that this deeper investigation be included in the recently submitted work plan, PHS-
EHD approves the submittal. Please submit your boring permit application and the$89 fee by August 1,
1997. The field work should start no later than September 1, 1997.
You may contact Michael Infurna, Senior REHS, at(209)468-3454 if you have any questions or wish to
discuss the site.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Michael Infurna Jr., Senior REHS Mar are REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
MI/
c: AGE -Tim Cuellar, 1803-A March Ln., Stockton, 95207
c: SWRCB- Martin Clark- PO Box 944212, Sacramento, 94244
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
