KLEINFELDER
were detected in two of the four groundwater samples collected. The levels detected at
the depths (first encountered groundwater) and locations in groundwater at the site
however were below state and federal Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLS) for
drinking water. The extent and distribution of hydrocarbons in groundwater is unknown
at this time. Kleinfelder at this time does not recommend clean-up or additional
groundwater monitoring activities related to petroleum constituents detected in
groundwater, based on the relatively low levels detected and since applicable petroleum
constituents are below drinking water standards (MCLs).
3) Kleinfelder anticipates that a final excavation volume of approximately 47,000 cubic
yards will need to be removed within the oil spill footprint during clean-up activities.
Please note onsite stockpiles of petroleum impacted soil from Chevron's clean-up
activities are not included in this estimate. Kleinfelder anticipates remedial excavation
depths will range from 12 to 20 feet bgs. The estimated depths of petroleum impacted soil
and anticipated future excavation depths are illustrated on attached Plates 3 and 4.
4) Kleinfelder recommends submitting a workplan to SJC/EHD detailing proposed remedial
activities, potential additional profile soil sampling and analyses for disposal purposes
and a confirmation soil sampling plan.
For additional discussion of Kleinfelder's findings please refer to the "Discussion of Findings" in
Section 5 and the "Conclusions and Recommendations"in Section 6.
This report, and the conclusions and recommendations presented in this Executive Summary, are
subject to the "Limitations"presented in Chapter 7 of this report. Any other party(other than the
Pegasus MH Ventures 1), or regulatory agencies having enforcement jurisdiction for this site)
who would like to use this report shall notify Kleinfelder, Inc. of such intended use in writing for
permission.
44843.T03 I ST04RI025 Page 2 of 16
Copyright 2004 Kleinfelder,Inc.
