PHS/EHD has the following comments for your consideration
A downgradient monitoring well, MW5,was installed on November 4, 1992 to further investigate the
extent of groundwater contamination. Soil contamination was not detected in samples collected and
analyzed at 5, 40, and 45 feet. Groundwater contamination was not detected in the initial ground water
sample collected on November 10, 1992.
Groundwater contamination continues to be evidenced in groundwater samples collected from monitoring
wells, MW1, MW2, MW3, and most recently in MW4. The groundwater gradient continues to be in the
southeast direction with depth to groundwater approximately 47 feet below ground surface.
Both residual soil and groundwater contamination, which has been detected, requires remediation.
Additional investigation to the west of MW-1 is.required to define the extent of contamination in that
direction. Once groundwater contamination has been defined, a "Problem Assessment Report" evaluating
soil and groundwater remedial alternatives should be prepared. Please submit a work plan for the
additional investigation west of MW-1 by May 3, 1993.
If you have any comments or questions, please contact Mary Ways, Senior REHS, of my staff at
(209) 468-0337.
Jogi Khanna, M.D. M.P.H.
Health Office
urie A.
