Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201 o- .y
Re: Chevron S.S. #9-0557
139 South Center Street, Stockton, CA J U N 5
Dear Mr. Schneider: ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICES
Enclosed is a report dated April, 1991 which was prepared by Chevron's consultant, Groundwater
Technology, Inc. (GTI), to describe the installation of four groundwater monitoring wells at the
site referenced above. The wells were drilled in February 1991 and groundwater monitoring was
performed in March 1991.
No hydrocarbons were detected in any of the soil samples collected during the drilling. Dissolved
IL h ydrocarbons were detected in the two wells located on the south end of the site near the former
F tunderground gasoline storage tanks.
It should be noted that the groundwater gradient has a relatively small magnitude across the site.
Rather than immediately installing addit onal_wells_-to-further-define the extent of dissolved
hydrocarbons in the groundwater, propose that a program of quarterly monitoring be followed
for three quarters prior to selecting the-location-of additional Wells. This will-allow for a better
understanding of the groundwater flow direction over the cycle of one year. Due to the small
magnitude of the groundwater gradient, the flow direction may vary over time. Without a large
gradient, the dissolved hydrocarbon plume will probably not migrate significantly during this
period of collecting data. The information gathered during such a time frame may greatly aid in the
proper placement of additional wells.
i
I have instructed GTI to monitor the wells again in June 1991. I will send a copy of the results to
your attention.
If you have any questions or comments, you may contact me at(415) 842-8658.
Sincerely,
Clint B.
