Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
RE: Proposed additional soil excavation for Chevron Service
Station No. 9-0557, located at 139 South Center Street,
Stockton, California.
Dear Mr. Snyder:
This letter presents the details of the additional soil
excavation proposed for Chevron Service Station No. 9-0557
located at 139 South Center Street in Stockton California. This
letter is intended to amend and clarify the soil excavation
section in the Work Plan for this site prepared by Groundwater
Technology, Inc. in November, 1989. In that Work Plan,
Groundwater Technology proposed to over-excavate, during tank
removal, any soils that showed evidence of being impacted by
adsorbed hydrocarbons. The excavated soil would then either be
treated on site and used for backfill or legally disposed of off
site. Since approval to over-excavate was not procured prior to
tank removal, Chevron U.S.A. Inc. (Chevron) now wishes to secure
permission to excavate soil containing adsorbed hydrocarbons from
this site.
The underground storage tanks were removed from this site on
April 5, 1990. A Groundwater Technology field representative was
on site to collect samples from beneath the tank, and from the
piping trenches. Ms. Casey Folly of the San Joaquin County
Health Department was also on site and she selected the sample
locations and established the laboratory analyses that would be
required.
