operate continuously except that a batch sample will be collected
at the end of each operating day. That is, Steps 2 through 6 will
be taken at the end of each operating day. Operations will not
restart until on-site analysis of collected batch sample confirms
treatment. At least one additional sample will be taken from the
treated effluent line during the continuous operation portion of
the operating day and will be analyzed for the parameters listed in
Step 5. This daily batch and on-line testing will confirm
continuing treatment effectiveness.
Groundwater Operation
1. Initial groundwater operation will follow Steps 2 through 7
presented for pond water operation.
2. During the first 15 days of daily groundwater operation, continuous
treatment will be interrupted to obtain daily batch samples as
noted in Step 8 of the pond water operation description.
Additional samples will be obtained and analyzed periodically
during the operating day. During this daily operating period, it
is expected that the system will approach breakthrough and require
regeneration at least twice.
3. Operating results will be plotted and compared against the
predicted performance curve at the measured influent concentration
as indicated in Figure 1.
4. After confirmation of system operation and chromate analyzer
functioning, the results of the startup testing will be presented
to representatives of the State agencies before full continuous
operation is commenced. Flow totalizer alarm points will be set
during continuous groundwater operation as the primary indicator of
the need for resin regeneration. The alarm point will be set at a
conservative percentage of predicted system throughput. For
10
