Fact Sheet -2-
The Marley Cooling Tower
The second step of the pond closure will be accomplished some
time later, after a decision has been made concerning the
corrective action to be taken on the entire site. In the second
step, the soil from the berms around the pond will be used to
fill the pond. Additional clean soil and a cover of clean clay
will complete the fill. This action will minimize the movement
of the small amounts of hazardous materials that may be left in
place. The area will then be covered with asphalt and may be
used for lumber storage.
Regulatory Basis: The Marley, Cooling Tower Company (Stockton
Plant) surface impoundment closure/post closure plans and
supplementary documents have been reviewed and found to be
substantially complete.
All conditions and terms of these closure/post closure plans are
required by Parts 264 and 265, Title 40, Code of Federal
Regulations; Division 20, California Health and Safety (H&S)
Code, Chapter 6. 5, and Title 22, Chapter 30, .California
Administrative Code.
For additional information on this subject, interested persons
may view the draft closure/post closure plans at the Public
Library, 605 North E1 Dorado, Stockton, CA 95205.
Public Involvement: Before these closure/post-closure plans are
finally approved, the public has a right to submit relevant
questions or comments during a thirty day period ending January
29 , 1988 . Similarly, a local public hearing may be requested.
Requests must be written and state the reason why a hearing is
needed, and they should be mailed, no later than January 29 ,
1988 , to:
Duane A. Gelster
Associate, Hazardous Materials Specialist
Toxic Substances Control Division
Northern California Section
4250 Power Inn Road
Sacramento, CA 95826
For Additional Information:
Please contact Duane A. Gelster at (916) 739-3145 or Ricardo
Villanueva, Community Relations Coordinator (916) 739-3145 .
DG:ms
DG3 . 117
