• 0
MARLEY COOLING TOWER COMPANY
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA FACILITY
SOUTH YARD STORM WATER SAMPLING
SCOPE OF WORK
1.0 INTRODUCTION
South Yard cleanup efforts have been beneficial and effective in
reducing chromium, copper, and arsenic contamination of storm water runoff
from Marley Cooling Tower Company's (MCTC's) South Yard. The reduction of
contaminent concentrations is evidenced by previous sampling activities
presented in the South Yard Storm Water Runoff Evaluation Report dated May,
1988. The potential sources of the offsite storm water contamination
include the South Yard storm water runoff, residue existing in the storm
water pipe drains and culverts, and offsite ditch soils adjacent to the
South Yard. Additional storm water sampling is proposed to confirm or
discount the South Yard as a source of offsite storm water contamination.
This sampling plan is designed to investigate the South Yard storm
water runoff as a source of the contamination. A sampling contractor will
collect composite storm water runoff samples while simulating storm water
runoff conditions. The sampling contractor will thoroughly wash down
designated sampling areas to simulate storm water runoff and expedite the
focused sampling investigation. The sampling locations are targeted for
areas which had been used for treated wood storage prior to the extensive
South Yard cleanup efforts of 1987. Figure 1 illustrates a general plan of
the South Yard and the proposed sampling areas.
2.0 PROPOSED SAMPLING AREAS
The proposed storm water sampling areas were chosen based upon
previous treated wood storage locations and existing patterns of South Yard
runoff as illustrated on Figure 1. Although the South Yard is relatively
flat, existing storm water runoff drainage patterns can be used to define
segregated runoff areas.
1
