Hickey
BLACK & VEATCH
1500 Meadow Lake Parkway
Kansas City, MO 64114
RE: Off-Site Well Sampling, July 1987
Dear Mr. Hickey:
In accordance with your letter of June 29, 1987, Hargis + Associates,
Inc. conducted an off-site well sampling program for the Marley Cooling
Tower Company Facility, Stockton, California, during July 1987. Seven
off-site wells were identified for sampling. Six of the wells were sampled.
The off-site well , at 328 North Lillian, was identified by the owner as
being inoperable since 1973. Residents and the California Water Service
were notified of the sampling and permission to enter obtained prior to
sampling. The California Department of Health Services was also notified
prior to sampling.
Water samples were collected from the tap closest to the well head
after flushing the pipeline for at least one minute. A representative
sample was collected in a clean one-gallon polyethylene bottle and filtered
through a 0.45-micron millipore filter into 2 one-liter polyethylene
bottles. One of the bottles contained a small amount of 1N nitric acid to
preserve the sample. The other bottle contained no perservative. Water
samples were analyzed in the field for pH, temperature and conductivity.
Proper chain-of-custody (COC) procedures were followed to ensure
integrity of the samples from the time of collection to reporting of
analytical results. The components of the custody procedure included:
sample labels, sample seals, field log and sample transmittal documents in
accordance with your letter of June 29, 1987.
At least 2 one-liter water samples were collected from each off-site
well , one containing 1N nitric acid, the other empty. The acidified water
sample was analyzed for arsenic, copper and total chromium. The other water
Phoenix olflce.
