Former Chevron Service Station 9-0557 Page 2
139 South Center Street September 17, 2010
Stockton, California
total xylenes (BTEX); total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline (TPH-g), TPH
as diesel (TPH-d), TPH as motor oil (TPH-mo), methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE),
ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), di-isopropyl ether
(DIPE), and tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA).
The EHD approves the advancement of four CPT borings at the locations proposed by HFA;
however, the EHD believes the proposed grab groundwater samples should be collected at
the water table and at depths identified as potentially course-grained zones on the CPT logs
instead of at set thirty-foot intervals beginning at the water table. Furthermore, the EHD
recommends that the grab groundwater sample be collected from discreet boreholes
advanced adjacent to the four proposed CPT soil borings to diminish the potential for cross
contamination between permeable subsurface soil units. The EHD also recommends that soil
samples be collected at ten-foot intervals to total depth of approximately 140 feet bsg in at
least one proposed soil borehole (preferably down-gradient of the former USTs). The EHD
believes the depths for the remaining three proposed soil borings should be based on field
findings from the initial soil boring advanced to approximately 140 feet bsg.
Please submit a boring permit application for each parcel, a copy of the access agreement
and encroachment permit issued by the City of Stockton, and permit/inspection fees of $488
per parcel to the EHD and complete the fieldwork by 19 November 2010. If you have any
questions or concerns regarding this letter, please contact Vicki McCartney at (209) 468-9852,
or by email at vmccartney@sjcehd.com.
Sincerely,
Victoria L.
