ROUSE JUL 112005
CHEVRON PRODUCTS COMPANY
P O BOX 6012
SAN RAMON CA 94583-2324
RE: Former Chevron Service Station 9-0557
139 South Center Street
Stockton, California
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed Work Plan
for Monitoring Well Installation submitted on your behalf by Secor International
Incorporated (Secor). In this work plan, Secor proposes to advance one cone
penetrometer test (CPT) boring to approximately 130 feet below ground surface (bgs) to
assess soil lithology, stratigraphy, and potential petroleum hydrocarbon contamination
prior to installing an adjacent deep groundwater monitoring well.
EHD approves the advancement of the proposed CPT boring to approximately 130 feet
bgs and the installation of one deep monitoring well with a screen interval of
approximately five feet. Secor proposes the total depth of the deep well to be
approximately 80 feet; however, Secor states that specific well details, including total
depth and screened interval, will be determined based on soil conditions identified in the
CPT boring. EHD has reviewed the boring logs for CPT-5, CPT-5A, and CPT-6 and
notes that low pore pressure zones do not appear at approximately 75 to 80 feet bgs;
however, in boring logs for CPT-5A and CPT-6, there is a low pore pressure zone at
approximately 103 to 107 feet bgs, and in CPT-5A there is another low pressure zone at
approximately 113 to 118 feet bgs. Therefore, EHD recommends that the deep well
screen interval be targeted at either approximately 105 or 115 feet bgs. Please analyze
groundwater samples for diesel and motor oil in addition to the proposed analyses for
total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline, benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, total xylenes,
and methyl tertiary-butyl ether.
Please submit a drilling permit application along with an $89.00 permit fee to EHD by
October 17, 2005. Also provide EHD with a copy of the health and safety plan for our
information prior to the fieldwork, and notify EHD at least 72 hours prior to commencing
the fieldwork.
