Any
comments you may have concerning the enclosed tentative Order should be submitted to this office by
12 May 2003 in order for us to give them full consideration prior to the meeting of the Regional Board.
The Order will be considered for adoption by the Regional Board at its regular meeting,to be held at
8:30 A.M. on 5 and 6 June 2003.
We have had several conversations with your consultant, Mr. Jeff Bold of MWH, during development of
the tentative order. We appreciate your desire to expedite the pilot studies and ultimate cleanup of the
groundwater. We believe that the pilot studies must be conducted cautiously and monitored thoroughly
so as not to create ancillary problems with sulfates or total dissolved solids (TDS) in the aquifer.
Increased sulfates and/or TDS could further complicate treatment and discharge of extracted
groundwater.
If you have any questions or you desire to meet with Board staff, please contact Mr. Sudhakar Talanki of
my staff at(916) 255-30778. .
Leslie Laudon, R.G.
Senior Engineering Geologist
California Environmental Protection Agency
Co Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.
