Marenco, Member
Board of Supervisors, 2nd District
Courthouse - Room 701
Stockton CA 95202
Faxed to: 209-468-3694
Dear Dario,
It was good to see you yesterday outside Dr. Stocking's office. Attached
are my rough notes from conversations with several people regarding the
toxic plume of hexavalent Chromium in East Stockton.
After much research and thought, I feel that several things should be done.
1 . People should be warned in writing and meetings that they should not use
well water in the areas that have over 0.2 parts per billion of hexavalent
chromium. No one who I have talked to who lives in the area said they
received any warning.
2. The state should be urged to inspect and test the former dump site on
Walker lane that I describe in my notes. The Department of Toxic
Substances Control needs to repair its special x-ray equipment and use it
on that site to be sure it is clear of hazard at once. This state of
California agency claims they lack of funds to repair the equipment. This
is inexcusable in a time of surplus budgets. I am sure I have paid enough
taxes myself to repair it. Lets invest in a clean environment for our
children and grandchildren.
3. Marley Cooling Towers should pay health costs of injured parties and
supply water to those who do not have a public supply. To preserve
privacy, I have not used names of several who I know of who have cancer
who live in the area.
