Mr. David Lieb • 3 _ • 22 July 2004
Marley Cooling Tower Facility, Stockton
3. Table 1. Demonstration System Monitoring Schedule. Phase 2 sampling. In addition to the
proposed sampling, which includes sampling as required by the current NPDES permit, we
request influent and effluent samples for the following parameters be collected and submitted for
analyses upon reaching the full flow (either Day 10 or 13): sulfate, bicarbonate, chloride, total
chromium, copper, arsenic, temperature, dissolved oxygen, residual chlorine, hardness, total
suspended solids, turbidity, and total iron. We believe this will provide an additional data point
and will be useful for evaluation.
4. Upon completion of the Demonstration study, operation of the groundwater extraction and
treatment systems should be continued in the current mode of operation (IX and ECS systems).
Please provide an estimated schedule for submittal of the Demonstration study results report to
Regional Board and DTSC.
5. Based on the successful results from the Demonstration study, if SPX-Marley wishes to replace
the current D{and ECS treatment systems, please note that revisions to the NPDES permit,
design documents of a permanent system, operation and maintenance documents, and possibly
decision documents such as the Remedial Action Plan may be required. Please check with DTSC
for any modifications in the Site Remedial Action Plan(RAP) that may be required if SPX-
Marley wishes to replace the existing LY and ECS treatment systems.
6.
