Chevron/South Center 5
November 1985
WORK STEPS
The following work steps are proposed:
o Obtain the required permits from local regulatory
agencies for the removal of underground storage tanks, i
the excavation of hydrocarbon-contaminated soils, the
aeration of such soils, and the installation of up to
four groundwater monitoring wells.
' o Remove the four existing on-site underground storage
tanks aloe with all associated
g piping. New, double-
walled tanks will be installed on site in accordance
with all applicable building codes and regulations.
o if evidence of hydrocarbon-impacted soils is
encountered, excavate the impacted soil in the vicinity
of the underground-storage tanks and/or piping to
4<s
either the apparent limits of contamination or to the
limits imposed by the site and/or excavation equipment.
o If impacted soils are excavated, such soils will be
i-a stockpiled on site. Any removed soil that shows
s
evidence of waste oil contamination will be kept
c„ separate from soils containing volatile hydrocarbons.
Soils contaminated with volatile hydrocarbons will be
aersted until hydrocarbon levels are below 1 part per
million (ppm) , then used as backfill for the
excavation. If possible, soils contaminated with non-
volatile hydrocarbons will be treated on site and
disposed of in an appropriate manner.
•l a GRorRan+ATER
TECHINOLaGY,INC.
