The purpose of these assessment activities was to replace groundwater
monitoring wells destroyed prior to station demolition activities in 2003 and to assess the vertical
extent of petroleum hydrocarbon impacts to soil and groundwater in the former underground storage
tank (UST) complex destroyed in 1990. This work was performed as outlined in SECOR's Work
Plan for Monitoring Well Installation (Work Plan), dated June 24, 2003, and addendum to the Work
Plan, dated December 30, 2003. The Work Plan and addendum to the Work Plan were approved by
the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division (County) as indicated in their letters, dated
November 17, 2003, and February 13, 2004, respectively (Attachment 1).
SITE DESCRIPTION
The site is located at 139 South Center Street in Stockton, California (Figure 1). Former station
facilities, removed in 2003, included two pump islands under a common canopy, three double-walled
steel USTs, one double-walled steel used-oil UST, and a station building. The USTs were removed
in 1990. Locations of former station facilities are shown on Figure 2. The area surrounding the site
consists primarily of commercial land uses. Topography in the area of the site is relatively flat and is
approximately 12 feet above mean sea level (msl). The nearest surface water bodies are: 1) the
Mormon Slough, located approximately 114-mile south of the site; 2) the Yacht Harbor, located
approximately 114-mile north of the site; and 3) the Port of Stockton, located approximately one mile
west of the site.
ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES AND FINDINGS
During March and April of 2004, SECOR supervised Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT) and
monitoring well installation to further assess soil and groundwater conditions beneath the site.
Locations of CPT borings and monitoring wells are shown on Figure 2. A summary of field and
laboratory procedures is presented in Attachment 2.
:1Chevron1905571REPORTS1200412004 Site Assessment. ReVB.doc
