Aquifer Test Set-Up
Pressure transducers with built-in data-loggers (TROLLS) will be installed in select
wells to electronically monitor water levels during the pumping test. Selected wells will
include the three (3) proposed shallow wells and MW-9. Background water levels will
be monitored for a period of 1-day. Additionally, a barometric pressure probe will be
utilized to monitor changes in the barometric pressure during the aquifer pump test.
The data-loggers will be programmed to record data at logarithmic intervals, measuring
water levels frequently upon initiation of the pump test and less frequently as the water
levels stabilized. A baseline, periodic, and final manual water levels will be collected
from the wells to validate data-logger measurements.
Step-Drawdown Pumping Test
The step-drawdown test will be performed to assess the sustainable yield of the pumping
well for the constant rate aquifer pump test. The appropriate pumping rate is that which
will affect the largest anticipated zone of influence without pumping the well dry during
the test. The step-drawdown test will be conducted using a variable speed submersible
pump installed in the proposed deep well near MW-9. A pressure transducer connected
to a single-channel data-logger will also be installed in well MW-9 to electronically
. monitor changes in water levels during the step-drawdown test. The well will be
pumped for specific periods at different pumping rates (steps) while changes in the water
levels are monitored.
Constant-Rate Pumping Test
The objective of the long-term pumping test will be to impose hydraulic stress on the
aquifer by pumping from the selected pumping well and then monitoring the drawdown
effect in the observation wells. The resulting drawdown data will then used to evaluate
the response of the aquifer to pumping, and estimate aquifer parameters including T, S,
and K, for the aquifer. The constant-rate pumping test will consist of background,
pumping, and recovery phases. The long-term constant-rate pumping test will include
the three components described below:
• Background Data Collection Phase—Prior to pumping, static and non-pumping
water levels will be monitored. This portion of the test is used to assess regional
water level trends including barometric efficiency.
• Pumping Phase—Long-term pumping in a single well at a constant rate to
produce the desired stress in the aquifer and to monitor the resulting changes in
water levels in observation wells.
•
