James L. Tjosvold
April 28, 1994
Page 2
5. Collect Zone A and Zone B HydropunchTM samples from a borehole at the
original proposed location for(MW-17) (northwest edge of the PG&E
property). Choose one of the following alternatives based on sample results:
5a. Alternative 1:
If gas plant residue constituents are not detected in Zone A and Zone B
HydropunchTM samples at this location, then install a Zone B well (MW-17) at
this location and a Zone C well (MW-15) approximately 20 feet to the east.
Both wells will be on PG&E property.
Justification: Samples from these wells will be used to evaluate downgradient
water quality in both Zone B and Zone C; site access will be safer and more
convenient; and these wells can act as points of compliance for a groundwater
monitoring program.
5b. Alternative 2:
If gas plant residue constituents are detected in Zone A but not Zone B
HydropunchTM samples, install Zone B well (MW-17) at this location and
install Zone C well (MW-15) in the Church St. right-of-way adjacent to the
Mia Ranchera Restaurant parking lot.
Justification: These well locations will allow for evaluation of downgradient
water quality in both Zone B and Zone C, and these wells can act as points of
compliance for a groundwater monitoring program.
5c. Alternative 3:
If gas plant residue constituents are detected in both Zone A and Zone B
HydropunchTM samples, then install a Zone B well (MW-17) in the Church St.
right-of-way adjacent to the Housing Authority parking lot, near the proposed
location for Zone C well (MW-16) and install Zone C well (MW-15) in the
Church St. right-of-way adjacent to the Mia Ranchera Restaurant parking lot.
Justification: These well locations will allow for evaluation of downgradient
water quality in both Zone B and Zone C, and these wells can act as points of
compliance for a groundwater monitoring program.
6. Conduct a pumping test in Zone B.
Justification: During Phase IIIc field work, it was determined that Zone A
could not maintain a pumping rate higher than 0.5 gpm. Therefore, if
groundwater remediation is required, some pumping in Zone B may be
necessary. Data from an aquifer pumping test using Zone B wells (MW-20)
and (MW-5) will be used to evaluate remedial alternatives. Well (MW-20)
may also act as a remediation well.
