Investigate source of diesel near MW-22R (Area II)
Soil borings SB96-6 through SB96-11 were drilled around MW-22R(as shown in Figures 1
and 3) to investigate the diesel found in the Hydropunch groundwater sample collected
from MW-22R. SB96-9 was drilled upgradient of the former auto repair shop and SB96-6
through SB96-8 were drilled within the footprint of the former auto repair facility and
upgradient of MW-22R. It was decided in the field that two additional borings, SB96-10 and
SB96-11 would be drilled downgradient from the MW-22R location since there were no
visual detections during the drilling of SB96-6 through S1396-9.
Soil samples were collected every 5 feet between 6 feet and 35 feet bgs in all of the borings
and an additional sample was collected at 42 feet bgs from S1396-8. Zone A Hydropunch'
groundwater samples were collected from SB96-8 and SB96-9 at 48 feet and 40 feet bgs,
respectively. The soil and groundwater samples were analyzed for PNAs,BTEX,TPH-
gasoline,TPH-diesel,and VOCs (including chlorinated solvents). Tables 1 and 2 summarize
the soil analytical results and Table .
All soil samples collected from these borings were nondetect for BTEX,TPH-gasoline,TPH-
diesel, and VOCs. PNAs were only detected in soil samples from S1396-9,S1396-10,and S1396-
11 at concentrations less than 0.25 mg/kg (with only acenaphthene and acenaphthalene
being detected). The two groundwater samples were nondetect for PNAs,BTEX,VOCs,and
TPH-gasoline. TPH-diesel was not detected in SB96-8 and was detected just above the
detection limit in upgradient boring SB96-9 at 0.57 mg/L.
These results indicate that there is not a source of diesel in Area II of PG&E property. Furthermore
there does not appear to be a source of gas plant residues or chlorinated solvents in this area.
SFO/96RESLTS.DOC 4
