EVALUATION OF TPH AND BENZENE SOIL VERIFICATION CONCENTRATIONS,STOCKTON FORMER MOP SITE
TPH-Diesel and TPH-Gasoline
Because VLEACH can not be used for mixtures of compounds such as petroleum
hydrocarbons,target verification concentrations for TPH-diesel and TPH-gasoline were
evaluated using the methodology developed for Castle Air Force Base (Castle) (AFBCA
1996).This methodology was provided by the RWCQB.The simplified fate and transport
model that was used for Castle is an approach for selection of Leachability Factors (LF) and
Environmental Attenuation Factors (EAF).These are then used to complete the soil cleanup
concentration equation presented in the Designated Level Methodoly for Waste Classification and
Clearnip Level Determination, California Regional Water Quality Control Board Central Valley
Region,June 1989 (DLM),as summarized below.
C.=Cgwgo x LF x EAF
Cs = Soil cleanup level(target verfication concentration)
Cg-go = Groundwater quality objective
LF = Leachability factor (equals retardation factor,R)
EAF = Environmental attenuation factor
Table 1 presents the input parameters and results of the simplified model. The supporting
model equations are explained further in the Castle report and are included below and in
Table 1.
LF =R=1+Ke*Lb
6
EAF =EAF di,P *EAF&g r
Kd = K,*fa
Kar=0.63*Kaw
vp"= 6
Xz
twate,=—
VPOre
Trhemirat=twmer*R
EAFdi,p = Environmental Attenuation Factor due to dispersion
EAFdegr= Environmental Attenuation Factor due to degradation
Ks = Soil/water partition coefficient
Pb = Soil bulk density
0 = Soil porosity
t Time
Koe = Organic carbon partition coefficient
Kow = Octanol/water partition coeffient
Vpore = Pore water velocity
TPHBBENZENEVERIFICATION MEMO.DOC 2
