r
s
SJCEHD concurred with PSC's investigation findings and requested a work
plan to remediate the site to "pre-release" conditions in their June 11, 2002
' correspondence PSC submitted a Pilot Testing Work Plan to SJCEHD on
July 23, 2002 The plan presented remedial alternatives and proposed
performing an air spargmg and soil venting pilot test to evaluate that method
' for full-scale implementation SJCEHD approved the workplan in
correspondence dated August 6, 2002
The air sparging and soil venting pilot test was performed in January 2003
The pilot test results were submitted in the March 6, 2003 Remedial Action
Plan The findings indicate that this approach would be effective in
remediating impacted soil and groundwater SJCEHD approved the Remedial
Action Plan in correspondence dated March 25, 2003
Under an approved San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District
(SJAPCD) permit, PSC installed the air-sparging and soil-venting system and
began continuous operation on November 18, 2003
' During system operation, airflow rates are measured in spargmg well SP-1
and in venting wells VW-I and MW-2 weekly The combined venting rates
' prior to the addition of dilution air for VW-1 and MW-2 have ranged from
2148 cubic feet per minute (cfm)to 90 05 cfm In addition, three vapor
samples are collected from the influent stream prior to the addition of dilution
air(designated Influent), the air stream after treatment by the first carbon
vessel (designated GAC-1), and from the discharge from the second and final
carbon vessel (designated GAC-2) The samples are then submitted to an
' analytical laboratory for BTEX and TPH-Gasoline analyses Results are
reported to the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (SJVAPCD)
' A quarterly groundwater-monitoring event was performed in January 2004
The event data indicated that the groundwater elevation was approximately
1 7 feet deeper than the previous event performed in April 2003 During this
' event, the depths to groundwater measured in the wells ranged from 28 42' to
29 35' from the top of casing (48 87' to—19 59' mean sea level (MSL)) The
groundwater flow was easterly at a gradient approximately 5 0 x 10"3 feet per
' linear foot Petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected in samples collected
from wells MW-1, MW-3, and MW-4 Petroleum hydrocarbon concentrations
were measured in well MW-2, but they were significantly lower than in
rprevious events Oxygenate analytes were not detected in any samples The
decrease in concentrations indicates that the remediation system is working
' sufficiently
r 7
August 2004
Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report
r Earthgralns Baking Companies,Inc
(Former Kilpatrlck's Bakeries,Inc)
1717 South Center Street
Stockton,California
Prepared for SARA LEE BAKERY GROUP Prepared by Philip Services Corp
H1ENW24001321121382EG\Pra3ects1Stockton-Center st\Envesugatrve and Quarterly Reports\Quarterly Report 10_2004 doc January 18,2005
