r INC. � RYAN w 91 ETTLER - Or D , 1 'D=A :, October 8,2001 Mr,Nick Nickerson Unocal Corporation 8788 Elk Grove Boulevard Building 3, Suite 15 Elk Grove,California 95624 Subject: Well Destruction at)Former Unocal Station#0123,1034 Central Avenue,Tracy,California Mr.Nickerson: At the request of Unocal Corporation (Unocal), Gettler-Ryan Inc. (GR) destroyed eight groundwater monitoring wells at the subject site. On September 10 and 11,2001, GR observed Cascade Drilling,Inc. (C57 #717510)destroy wells U-1 through U-8. Locations of the former wells are shown on the attached Site Plan (Figure 1). Well destruction activities are summarized in Table 1. Copies of well permits #0027311 and #0027312 issued by San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (SJCPHS-EHD) and encroachment permit #01-443 issued by the City of Tracy are attached. A copy of the State of California well completion report is attached. Eight 2-inch diameter wells were drilled out to one-foot below original boring depths to remove casing, sandpack, and sealing material. The vault boxes were.removed. The borings were then backfilled to within 0.5 feet of ground surface with neat cement, then finished to ground surface with concrete. The sidewalk and pavement surrounding wells U-4 and U-6 through U-8 were repaired per Plans 132 and X501 as required by the City of Tracy Department of Development and Engineering Services. The wells have been properly.destroyed as required by California Department of Water Resources Water Well Standards(Bulletins 74-81 and 74-90) and SJCPHS-EHD guidelines. Soil cuttings generated during drilling activities were placed in drums, and a disposal confirmation sample SP-1 (A-D) was collected and sent to Sequoia Analytical Laboratory (FLAP #1624) in Sacramento, California, for chemical analysis. A copy of the analytical report is attached. Manley and Sons Trucking, Inc. removed 3.25 tons of soil cuttings in drums from the site and transported it to Forward Landfill in Manteca, California, for disposal on October 3,200L.Copies of the Non-Hazardous Waste Manifest and Disposal Confirmation forms are attached.
