Quarterly Summary Report Second Quarter 1996 Former Unocal Service Station 012" 1034 Central Avenue JUL 2 3 1996 Tracy, California ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH City/County ID#: Unknown PERMIT/SERVICES County: San Joaquin BACKGROUND The site was reportedly an operating Unocal service station from approximately 1920 through 1962. Two underground storage tank (UScomplexes have existed at the site. A cluster of three USTs located at the northern property boundary adjacent to I I th Street, were identified as "abandoned" on a general arrangement plan, and a second cluster of three tanks to the south were identified as active USTs. The property was purchased by Bank of Amer- ica and the service station was demolished in 1962. The site is currently an asphalt-paved parking lot owned by and servicing the Wells Fargo Bank located immediately to the south. A limited subsurface investigation was conducted 4 LMS and is detailed in a March 29, 1994, Phase 1 Report, Addendum 1. As requested by the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Unocal submitted a work plan to perform a soil and groundwater investigation on October 13, 1994. Nine soil borings and three groundwater monitoring wells were installed in May 1995. Exploratorytest pitting was perform�d on the property in June and encoun- tered two abandoned UST's at the northern property boundary, beneath the 11th Street sidewalk. A report documenting the soil and groundwater investigation was submitted to Unocal and San Joaquin County in December 1995.1 RECENT QUARTER ACTIVITIES Second quarter groundwater monitoring was performed in June 1996. Based on a 3-year moratorium .prohibiting street and sidewalk opemngs,.Unocal submitted an application for a closure-in-place permit to properly abandon the two USTs located beneath the 1 lth Street sidewalk. Following submittal of the closure-in-place application, the City of Tracy gave a verbal approval to cut the sidewalk to facilitate removal of the USTs. NEXT QUARTER ACTIVITIES_ Third quarter 1996 groundwater monitoring will be performed..
