Quarterly Summary Report <br /> Second Quarter 1996 <br /> Former Unocal Service Station 012" <br /> 1034 Central Avenue JUL 2 3 1996 <br /> Tracy, California <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH <br /> City/County ID#: Unknown PERMIT/SERVICES <br /> County: San Joaquin <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> The site was reportedly an operating Unocal service station from approximately 1920 <br /> through 1962. Two underground storage tank (UScomplexes have existed at the site. A <br /> cluster of three USTs located at the northern property boundary adjacent to I I th Street, were <br /> identified as "abandoned" on a general arrangement plan, and a second cluster of three tanks <br /> to the south were identified as active USTs. The property was purchased by Bank of Amer- <br /> ica and the service station was demolished in 1962. The site is currently an asphalt-paved <br /> parking lot owned by and servicing the Wells Fargo Bank located immediately to the south. <br /> A limited subsurface investigation was conducted 4 LMS and is detailed in a March 29, <br /> 1994, Phase 1 Report, Addendum 1. As requested by the San Joaquin County Public Health <br /> Services, Unocal submitted a work plan to perform a soil and groundwater investigation on <br /> October 13, 1994. Nine soil borings and three groundwater monitoring wells were installed <br /> in May 1995. Exploratorytest pitting was perform�d on the property in June and encoun- <br /> tered two abandoned UST's at the northern property boundary, beneath the 11th Street <br /> sidewalk. A report documenting the soil and groundwater investigation was submitted to <br /> Unocal and San Joaquin County in December 1995.1 <br /> RECENT QUARTER ACTIVITIES <br /> Second quarter groundwater monitoring was performed in June 1996. Based on a 3-year <br /> moratorium .prohibiting street and sidewalk opemngs,.Unocal submitted an application for a <br /> closure-in-place permit to properly abandon the two USTs located beneath the 1 lth Street <br /> sidewalk. Following submittal of the closure-in-place application, the City of Tracy gave a <br /> verbal approval to cut the sidewalk to facilitate removal of the USTs. <br /> NEXT QUARTER ACTIVITIES_ <br /> Third quarter 1996 groundwater monitoring will be performed..
