(Condor)
on your behalf, the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD)
became aware that the laboratory method blank associated with the soil gas samples
collected on June 22, 2007, did not include the analysis for 1,1-difluoroethane, the
compound used for leak detection. Please confirm whether 1,1-difluoroethane was
inadvertently omitted from the list of compounds reported for the method blank. If this
was not an oversight by the laboratory, please clarify the presence of 1,1-difluoroethane
in the samples when it is unknown whether 1,1-difluoroethane may also have been
present in the method blank and may have been a laboratory contaminant.
Since 1,1-difluoroethane was detected in all but one of.the soil gas samples, provide an
estimate of the dilution associated with the leakage of ambient air during the sampling
process for each sample where 1,1-difluoroethane was detected and provide the
"corrected" chemicals-of concern concentrations. Include calculations and assumptions.
The EHD is currently reviewing data to determine whether corrective action should be
taken to remediate the petroleum hydrocarbons contamination detected in monitoring
well MW-4. Per telephone conversation on April 17, 2008, Condor has agreed to provide
west-east cross sections to facilitate evaluation of the data.
If you have any questions .regarding this letter please contact Vicki McCartney, Senior
Registered Environmental Health Specialist, at (209) 468-9852, or by email at
vmccartney@sj cehd.com.
