The prime
element is the natural microbial process itself.
5.1 NATURE'S CONTROL OF ITS OWN SYSTEM
5.1.1 Naturally occurring microbes that will improve the quality of the
treatment system are further enhanced by a reasonable and simple
control system.
5.1.2 The microbes and nutrients applied to the contamination can only
thrive with a carbon and nutrient source, in a range of temperature and
pH that assures controllability.
5.1.3 Microbes will attack the lighter ends of any contamination first,
thereby minimizing the possibility of air pollution.
5.1.4 Once the microbes find their food sources exhausted, they die.
5.1 5 Elevated temperatures and the introduction of microbially toxic
materials to the plume will halt the biological activity.
5.1 6 Bioremediation falls into three currently available methodologies for
this purpose,
1) Enhancement of indigenous organisms with NPK and oxygen
enrichment.
2) Introduction of a single known effective organism to enhance the
indigenous.
3) Introduction of a pre--tested menu of pre-selected, compatible,
non-pathogenic organisms, with NPK and oxygen enrichment into a
zone of contamination that is known to be digestible by one or a
combination of organisms, together, of in stages.
Bio National recognizes the limitations of 1) and 2), and utiliv-s what it
feels is the most environmentally effective and time conserving
approach. The process is designed to meter in only the ainount of
inoculum, water, microbes and enhancers, to wet the zone, not saturate
it. Further, the process is NOT soil venting, and it is NOT soil flushing
6 THOR901
