If groundwater is expelled during the grouting process, it will be properly contained,
characterized, and disposed. The borehole locations will be backfilled and resurfaced with
appropriate materials to match the existing grade.
3.5 Waste Disposal
Soil cuttings, drilling fluids, purge water, decontamination water and personal protective
equipment (PPE) generated during drilling operations will be containerized in Department of
Transportation (DOT)-approved 55-gallon drums and temporarily stored on the subject property
pending characterization and disposal. Upon characterization, wastes will be transported by a
disposal contractor to an appropriate disposal or treatment facility.
4.0 WELL INSTALLATION
4.1 Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan
A Site-specific HASP will be prepared prior to the well installation activities as described in
Section 3.1 of this Work Plan.
4.2 Permitting
Prior to performing the well installation activities, necessary permits will be obtained from the
SJCEHD. In addition, necessary executed access agreements will also be obtained from
affected property owners.
4.3 Preliminary Field Activities
Well locations will be marked or cleared of underground facilities prior to well installation as
described in Section 3.3 of this Work Plan.
4.4 Soil Boring Advancement, Soil Sampling Analyses, and Well Installation
Prior to drilling, the well borings will be air-knifed to approximately 5-8.1 ft below ground surface
(bgs), depending on client specific health and safety requirements, to investigate that no
underground facilities exist within the area of drilling. A total of eight groundwater monitoring
wells (SMW-24A, SMW-24B, SMW-25B, SMW-26B, SLMW-10B, SMW-25C, SMW-27C, and
CMW-8C) will be installed in accordance with the SJCEHD Well Standards (SJCEHD, 2005).
Each boring will be advanced using a sonic drilling rig equipped with heavy-walled down-hole
casing telescoped to help seal off shallow groundwater-bearing zones. Cores will be evaluated
for continuous soil stratigraphy. Undisturbed soil samples will be collected every 10 feet from
20 to 60 ft bgs (excluding SMW-27C) using a split spoon sampler ahead of the sonic drill string.
Soil cores will be classified using the Unified Soil Classification System by a geologist under the
direction of a State of California Professional Geologist. Soil cores will be screened in the field
for the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOC) using a photo-ionization detector (PID) or
flame-ionization detector (FID).
