Work)ng to Restore Nature
2.0 BACKGROUND
2.11 Site Description
ARCO Service Station 2168 is located on the northeast corner of West Charter Way and
Lincoln Street in Stockton, California, as shown on the Site Vicinity Map (Plate 1). The
property near the intersection is commercial and residential, on the southeast corner is a
Texaco Service Station, on the southwest corner is a Chevron Service Station, and on the
northwest corner is a transmission shop, as shown on the Generalized Site Plan (Plate 2)
Information provided by ARCO indicates that there are four underground gasoline tanks
in use at the site. These tanks store super unleaded, mid-grade unleaded, and regular
unleaded gasoline. One waste-oil tank is also at the site It is our understanding from
ARCO personnel that no other tanks have occupied the gasoline-storage tank cavity and the
gasoline tanks have not stored other fluids The approximate locations of the existing
underground tanks relative to site structures are shown on Plate 2
2.2 Proximity to Wells
It is our understanding from City of Stockton personnel that the city provides water and
sanitary sewer service for the site Based on our search of utility records at the Department
of Public Works, sewer lines are located under Charter Way and Lincoln Street No septic
tanks or leachfields are located near the site Based on our record search performed at the
Department of Public Works, there are no municipal, domestic, or irrigation water wells
within 500 feet of the site Data obtained from the California Department of Water
Resources indicate water-supply wells are within 1/2 mile of the site These wells are listed
in Table 1 and are depicted on Plate 1 Some of the wells noted are probably inactive, and
other wells may exist near the site but do not appear in the records At the Texaco Station
31009-10 2
