lizataon of the hydrocarbons .' The spread soils were then
resampled to measure aeration effectiveness . A discrete
sample was collected approximately every 20 cy of aerated
soil . An imaginary _ grid would be used to determine sample
locations as shown in Figures 4 through 7 . The aeration
goals were stated in Touchstone' s Corrective Action Plan
dated August 30, 1996 The aeration sample analytical i
results are summarized in Tables D and F.
The stockpiles represented by UOSP(a-h) and SP-9 (a-d) were
profiled for disposal at Browning-Ferris Industries ' (BFI )
Landfill located in Livermore, California. Allwaste
Transportation and Remediation, Inc . (Allwaste) transported
soils to BFI during December 1996 .
ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Summaries of the soil analytical results are presented in
Tables A through F. The rfuel UST excavation and trench
samples were analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons
calculated as gasoline (TPH-Gasoline) according to EPA
Method 8015 (Modified) , Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene,
Xylenes (BTEX) and Methyl-t-Butyl Ether (MTBE) according to
EPA Method 8020 and Total Lead according to EPA Method 6010 .
Samples collected from the hoists and associated excavation
• were analyzed for Total Oil and Grease (TOG) according to
EPA Method 5520F. Additional analysis for the sump, used oil
tank and associated stockpile samples included Volatile
Organic Compounds according to EPA Method 8010 and/or 8240,
Semi-volatile Compounds according to EPA Method 8270, and
Metals according to EPA Method 6010.
Overexcavation and aeration samples were analyzed for TPH-
gas , BTEX and MTBE . Due to a suspected oil presence between
the former UST excavation and southern most pump island,
select samples were analyzed for fuel fingerprint by Method
8015 modified. Samples initially analyzed with the fuel
fingerprint matched patterns close to paint thinner, later
fingerprint analyses from the stockpile samples from this
area showed a closer match to kerosene and motor oil .
Copies of the Certified Analytical Reports (CARS ) from the ,
Laboratory and Chain-of-Custody forms are attached in
Appendix B.
t
Page 6
