Page 2,515 Charter Way •
The site map included in the Report has been modified to indicate there are three
underground storage tanks associated with this site. Please explain the addition of a
waste oil tank to the map. Is this a recently discovered tank, or has it already been
removed?
In the QMR Shaw recommends discontinuing analysis of groundwater samples for methyl
tertiary butyl ether (MtBE), and adding analysis for total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel
for a period of one year (four quarters). SJC/EHD agrees with and approves these
recommendations. In addition, Shaw states in the cover letter of the report that they
expect to restart the existing SVE remediation system sometime this year. SJC/EHD
does not agree with restarting the SVE system unless it can be shown that the system is
still an effective system and that restarting it in it's existing configuration would help
remediate the remaining contamination. During the years that the SVE system operated it
appeared to have little impact on the concentration of contaminants in the groundwater.
Time and resources at this site should be focused on remediation of the contamination
that remains in the groundwater and submerged impacted soil.
Please proceed with submittal of a feasibility study for remediation of the petroleum
hydrocarbon contamination at this site. The feasibility study is due for submittal to
SJC/EHD no later than December 15, 2006.
If you have any questions please call Lori Duncan at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Nuel C.
