(Shaw) and has the following comments.
In correspondence dated July 26, 2005, SJC/EHD responded to the initial work plan Shaw had
submitted for the next phase of work at this site. SJC/EHD's response included approval of the
proposed use of Ultra-Violet Induced Fluorimetry Cone Penetration Testing (UVIF-CPT), though noting
that the number of these borings installed should be fully justified, the change in analytical suite for
groundwater sample analysis, and a request for an addendum to provide more specific details about
the proposed air sparge test.
In the Addendum Shaw has proposed to change the number of UVIF-CPT borings to five and the
direct push borings for sample collection at depth to twelve. The direct push borings will be installed
with the same truck-mounted equipment used for the UVIF-CPT borings. These borings and samples
are proposed to define the vertical and lateral extent of the contamination, and will be utilized by Shaw
in the development of a stratigraphic model of the areas of subsurface contamination.
Shaw declined to submit details about the air sparge test with the addendum. Instead, they withdrew
the proposal to perform an air sparge test with this phase of work stating that"Shaw believes that after
the site investigation work proposed above is completed, a separate work plan for air sparge testing or
other remedial action may be developed based on the updated site conceptual model".
Please proceed with submittal of a well permit application, required $89.00 permit fee and $279.00
permit inspection fee for each parcel of land on which borings will be advanced. Encroachment
permits and/or access agreements are required for all offsite work; copies of these must be submitted
with the SJC/EHD permit applications. A report of findings must be submitted within 60 days following
completion of the fieldwork, and must include an updated site conceptual model and proposal for
further remediation testing.
