' least 10 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm) with a minimum discharge pressure of 30 pounds
per square inch gauge (psig). The compressor will run on 120/240 volts, single-phase power
supply.
Test equipment will include a portable helium gas canister. Helium gas will be added to the
injection air as a tracer to allow monitoring of the movement of the injection air, including in the
vadose zone. This will help further determine the ROI for oxygen distribution, as well as assess
the migration, if any, of the volatilized organics from the groundwater into the vadose zone and
if a pneumatic control of offgas from the biosparging operation will be necessary.
4.1.3 Monitoring Equipment and Instruments
Monitoring equipment and instruments required for the pilot test include: a Horiba (or equal)
water quality meter, downhole DO and level probes, a Solinst water level meter, a Landtec GA90
(or equal) oxygen/carbon dioxide meter, a Photovac 2020 photoionization detector (PID), a
helium gas detector, Dwyer digital or analog portable pressure gauges, and a TSI Velocical 8355
thermal anemometer. Dataloggers will also be used with instruments where necessary to provide
continuous monitoring and recording of the changes in the field parameters (such as water levels)
during biosparging.
4.2 System Parameter Testing and Data Collection
As previously discussed in Section 3, determination of the biosparge injection ROI and oxygen
consumption rate requires field testing at various operating conditions. This section describes
! the testing and data collection procedures in detail. Sampling and laboratory analysis procedures
to be performed as part of the pilot test are also described herein.
j4.2.1 System Testing and Data Collection
The biosparge pilot test will be conducted in three segments: (1) baseline measurement, (2)
' injection ROI test, and (3) post-test measurement. The test and data collection procedures in
each segment are described in the following subsections.
4.2.1.1 Baseline Measurement
The following field data will be collected to establish the baseline condition of the subsurface in
1 the pilot test area prior to testing:
• Helium gas concentration (in headspace)
' Well water level
• Wellhead vapor concentration (by PID)
it
IBiosparge Pilot Test Final. doc 4-2 Shaw Environmental, Inc.
