San Joaquin County Well Standards do require that, "if the well casing was left in place during.the sealing
operations,a hole at least one foot larger in diameter than the originally drilled hole shall'be excavated around the
outside of the well casing to a depth of 3 feet below the ground surface, and the well casing shall then be cut off 6
inches above the bottom of this, excavation and removed. The grout used to fill the well shall be allowed to spill over the
excavation during the sealing operation, and fill it for a thickness of one foot and form a "cap"which has a diameter of
at least one foot greater than the.diameter of the originally drilled hole."
This implies that excavation is.to be done around the underground pipe adjacent to MW-5 in order to satisfy the
requirements above. f
Sincerely,
Gabriel Gonzalez
From: Silva,,Larry [ma i Ito:lsilva@craworld.com]
Sent: Wednesday, June 25, 2014 11:43 AM
To: Gabriel Gonzalez [EH]
Cc: Adrienne Ellsaesser [EH]
Subject: RE: 620 West Charter Way, Stockton
Hi Gabriel,
I'm getting back to you regarding the underground pipe that.was discovered during clearing activities at MW-5.
Based on the pipe's close proximity to MW-5,the pipe had to be installed after MW-5 was constructed. Similar pipes
were observed in old photos(Feb-1990)taken of station construction activities. It's likely that the pipe was installed
during these'activities. However,l was unable to identify any information in our historical files to confirm what this pipe
is. We also checked the surroundings for any meter/pull boxes, but could not find any. '
Consequently,CRA.is requesting a variance to destroy MW-5.by pressure grout instead of over-drilling methods as
originally proposed.
Thank you for considering this request.
Larry
1
