The work plan was submitted in response to the EHD letter
dated 03 April 2014 directing a well destruction work plan be submitted to this agency.
In the work plan, CRA proposes to destroy monitoring wells MW-2, MW-3, MW-4, MW-5,
MW-7, MW-8, MW-9, MW-13-50, MW-14-77, MW-16-50, MW-16-77, MW-16-90 and
MW-17-50 by over-drilling; and MW-1, MW-6, MW-10, MW-11, MW-13-77, MW-14-50, and
MW-15-77 by pressure grouting. CRA proposes to store groundwater and drill cuttings
generated during the well destructions in a covered bin or fifty-five-gallon drums. prior to
disposal profiling and transporting the waste to an appropriate disposal facility.
The EHD approves the work plan with the following conditions:
• Over-drill monitoring well MW-13-77 instead of pressure grouting this well since
contaminants of concern were detected in soil samples collected at forty-five feet
below surface grade (bsg) during the well installation and pass through the
groundwater interval monitored by MW-13-50, which contains minor benzene;
• Use only potable water to make the grout; displaced groundwater may not be used
to make grout or for any other purpose and must be disposed of properly;
• Notify the EHD at least two weeks prior to implementing fieldwork activities so that
an inspector can schedule to be present for the well destructions; and
• Include the signed and dated manifests of soil and groundwater waste removal
when submitting the final well destruction report.
